What types of therapy does WCB sponsor?

In all of the published material relating to the Criminal Injury Compensation Program it is stated that a crime or criminal intent must have occurred. However in an article published in a major Vancouver newspaper in March of 1999 appeared the following:

"In a separate case, a report of the WCB's appeal division noted a woman had received $9,500 for pain and suffering, as well as thousands of dollars in disability payments for a crime the board felt probably never occurred."

Contradiction? Certainly. Combine this with the total lack of any monitoring agenda involving the therapy practices of those "therapists" plus the ease with which individuals can qualify to be placed on that WCB payroll as therapists and there is no way anyone can quantify the types of therapy WCB sponsors.

Result? An unjustifiable waste of tax money and needless destruction of innocent citizens.

Lets take a closer look at the methodologies employed by Therapists Donahue and Oaks in their use of the quackery of Recovered Memory Therapy.

As reported earlier Therapist Oaks failed to make any notes during the whole of the more than one year. When she was ordered by the court to produce her notes the only information she could provide was a precise record of the payments she had received from WCB.

This unethical and total lack of professionalism presents two obvious questions:

1. How can there be any comprehensive continuity of long-term treatment based solely on the memory of the practitioner?

2. Should a practitioner become incapacitated, how does a follow-up provider continue treatment?

Therapist Oaks' lack of documentation is unacceptable at any level in any profession. And yet she is adequate for the Criminal Injury Compensation Program and your tax money

There is a small window of the wizardry practiced by Therapist Oaks acquired via the records of Therapist Donahue. From the clinical notes, written as a result of Sharon's "therapy", it is obvious that the two sisters discussed many of their different allegations. Sharon in turn regurgitated these allegations to her "therapist". Through this we learn of some of Vicki's allegations:

  • Years of sexual abuse by father, including incredibly, allegations of sexual abuse on day of her sister Marilyn’s funeral.
  • Incident of rape by dad and two men with rifles
  • Feeling "very uncomfortable with grandfather"
  • Raped by neighbor, friend of Dad's
  • Sexually abused by Sharon (Sharon has no memory of this abuse of her sister.) Mother sees incident of sexual abuse, possible intercourse, but turns away and does nothing. (Mother has no memory of this incident.)
With Therapist Donahue it is again much easier to scrutinize.

Firstly a look at the methodologies she used to conjure up "memories".

  • Journeys a form of hypnotism where the patient is put into a trance and travels back to another age (This is the same methodology that results is claims of past lives and space alien abduction.)
  • Art interpretation Therapist Donahue possesses the magical power to decode the drawings of her "patients". (The obvious advantage to this is that the patient does not have to vocalize her "memories". Therapist Donahue is able to tell the patient what "memories" she is "recovering".
  • Dream journals the patient is instructed to maintain a notepad by her bedside. Then when she is awakened by bad dreams, very probable caused by the stress of manufacturing abuse "memories" during the day, thepatient records these nightmares before she forgets them. Should the patient have a strange or weird dream, that is also recorded and Therapist Donahue provides the decoding much like with drawings. Curiously the "therapist" finds sexual abuse in each. The patient is told that these bad dreams are sub-conscious or repressed "memories" working their way into the conscious.
  • Body memories headache, nausea, dizziness, a sense that something happened, all to the Recovered Memory Therapist are interpreted as "memories" of sexual abuse which were so grave that the mind could not manage in the normal memory system therefore these "memories" were stored in a body locations for later retrieval.
Photo interpretation
  • The patient has accepted the "therapist's" notion that she is the victim of unremembered sexual abuse. From this time on the patient desperately needs and searches for "hard evidence" of this abuse. What greater avenue to examination the past than through photos. The patient and her "therapist" comb the family albums for any photos that might record an act of abuse. When none is found they hunt for childhood photos of the patient which reflect the patient in an unhappy or sad mood or pose. When a photo like this is discovered it is taken that sexual abuse has happened just prior to the photo. For the fervent devotee a picture of a sad child is the "photographic proof of abuse" so feverishly sought. Abuse which supposedly having taken place just prior to the picture being taken. Their logic is that children by nature are happy and they are sad only when something bad or hurtful happens. Why did the child not report the abuse at the time? Because the child repressed the memory of the incident. Why did not anyone ever see any signs of the abuse? Because the "perpetrator" is so clever.
(This technique is particularly dangerous in any court testimony because not only does the accuser have the conjured "memories" of an assault but they also are able to testify what clothing they were wearing and other factual details recorded by the photo. That photo is then produced in court in support of the "memories". No mention is made of the fact that it was this same photo that initiated the "memories". And because the testimony regarding the clothing, scenery etc is substantiated by the picture then it follows that the "memories" of the alleged abuse is believed.)
  • Gestalt therapy. The concept of this type of therapy is roll playing. The patient expresses emotion, usually anger, as a result of the newfound abuse. In these re-enactment sessions the patient takes the part of the now newly empowered victim and the "therapist" plays the roll of the evil dominating perpetrator. (When doing this type of "therapy" the screams from my daughter were so loud that Therapist Donahue would hold the sessions in her car so as not to disturb other members of the office building.)
  • Inner-child healing. The patient is instructed that they possess and "inner-child". As the "therapy" progresses this "inner-child" becomes a separate entity. The adult patient is encouraged to communicate with this "inner-child". The communication process consists of the adult patient writing to the "inner-child" utilizing her normal writing hand. The patient then transfers the writing instrument to her other hand and writes a response supposedly from the "inner-child".
When this is done, to the distraught patient who has by now surrendered all her critiquing power to her "therapist", there appears, through misguided logic, support of the existence of the "inner-child". One set-of-writing appears adult in formation and the other, written with the hand not normally used for writing, appears like the unstable penmanship of a child. As the "therapy" proceeds the adult patient is encouraged to allow this "inner-person" to have periods of control of the body, to be the dominant personality. The result of this although now invisible to the adult patient, is so degrading to the patient as this adult person goes through the periods of behaving like a small child.

(How humiliating for my daughter and her boyfriend. Both were acting like little children as they attended "therapy" from this man for their respective "inner-child". "What a joke" this Harry must think of these mixed up people as he collects his large hourly rate of pay.)

Employing these techniques what memories was WCB Therapist Donahue able to produce?
  • Long-tern sexual abuse by father including intercourse at 6 yrs old and abuse at a birthday party.
  • Playing rape with childhood friend using their dolls.
  • Suspecting father of same childhood friend of unspecified something bad.
  • Sexual abuse by her live-in boyfriend’s father.
  • Boyfriend’s father sexual abused his grandchildren.
  • Father’s father abuse that was not specific.
  • Sexual abuse by father, an unnamed man and a dog.
  • Sexual abuse by a school teacher.
And by the end of the year of therapy my daughter and her Therapist Donahue had "discovered" 3 alters. Three people/personalities living in the same body. And of course, as previously stated Recovered Memory Therapy, respects no one. Marilyn, Sharon’s sister, who died at age 17 of leukemia, is accused of sexually abusing Sharon.

(Note: In all of the therapy not once did therapist Donahue explore the difficulties left on our lives from the tragic death of Marilyn. And in fact a 16-year-old neighborhood boy approached Sharon sexually at age 7. As parents we were immediately aware as Sharon came to us with this complaint and as a result that situation was monitored to ensure it did not happen again. This never appears in therapy. Why? Well one good guess is that Therapist Donahue knew that WCB would not pay for "therapy" if that were the complaint.)

1. How an application is made and processed for WCB sponsored therapy?

2. What investigations/safeguards does WCB utilize to eliminated bogus claims?

3. What are the required therapist qualifications for WCB sponsorship?

4. What types of therapy does WCB sponsor?

5. What monitoring programs are in place to insure proper therapy is being?

6. What programs are available to correct for any harm that WCB may have caused
as a direct result of their sponsored therapy?

7. Conclusion
